Deep violet colour to the rim. On the nose, a combination of fresh crushed blackberries with resinous undertones and hints of figs. Rich and complex on the palate, showing juicy flavours of crushed berries along with hints of ceddarwood and spices, ending in a long tannic finish. - Johnny Graham and Ricardo Pinto Nunes.

THE YEAR

2012-2013 viticultural year was characterized as atypical, with great average temperature and precipitation oscillations. The Spring, with higher precipitation levels, especially in March, with intense rain periods (2nd most rainy month of the past 50 years) and lower air temperatures than normal, affected the period between April and June, with great temperature level variations. The summer, with higher temperature levels, was mostly due to the heat wave that occurred at the beginning of July (10 consecutive days). September and October were hottest than normal, but also with higher precipitation levels than average, due to the rainfall on the 5th of September and continuously from the 27th of September to the 3rd of October. On the 18th of October, another important period of rainfall occurred. The substantial humidity levels on the soil, together with high-temperature levels in June, created highly favorable conditions for the development of powdery mildew. Due to the unsettled weather conditions, the growth period was delayed, with a flowering season quite irregular, with low temperatures and intense rainfall. This delay was observed till harvest time, starting 8 to 10 days later than expected. The expected crop for 2013 was 10 to 15% lower than 2012.
