"Wild plum and berry flavours are concentrated and well rounded in this balanced, fresh-tasting red, which shows hints of chocolate on the finish.”

A mature black cherry colour. Fresh resinous nose combined with notes of blueberries and gum cistus. Focused and precise on the palate, showing a lovely natural acidity in combination with well-defined tannins, resulting in a long and structured finish. - Johnny Graham and Ricardo Pinto Nunes.

Quinta da Gricha is located on the South bank of the river Douro between Pinhão and Tua with a North facing aspect. The 50 hectare property comprises a vineyard are of approximately 19 hectares with an altitude of 150-250 meters above sea level. This Vintage Port was sourced exclusively from the old vineyards.

THE YEAR

The winter season (December to February) was the driest of the past 40 years (considering Régua and Pinhão). This dry period was slightly attenuated with some rainfall occurring in April and especially in May. The accumulated precipitation levels at the end of August revealed losses of approximately 35% compared to the average. Regarding air temperatures, at the end of June, the mean temperature levels for the season were under the average, and the sum of active temperatures was slightly above 2007 and 2008. Due to the abnormal dry year, the sanitary conditions of the vineyards were very good with weak conditions for the development of Mildew and Oidium. The potential crop was expected to be around 23% higher than in 2011, being this value negatively influenced by the dry weather and blossom drop and also by some bunch burn at the end of June and some hail in the middle of July.
