An exuberant Port with a distinctive expression of Douro terroir; dark cherry in colour with an aroma of raisins and ripe figs; on the palate fine grained tannins combine with concentrated crushed red berries to give this elegant Port a rich and juicy flavour." - Johnny Graham and Ricardo Pinto Nunes.

Quinta da Gricha is located on the South bank of the river Douro between Pinhão and Tua with a North facing aspect. The 50 hectare property comprises a vineyard are of approximately 19 hectares with an altitude of 150-250 meters above sea level. This Vintage Port was sourced exclusively from the old vineyards.

THE YEAR

2009 was a year with a lower average precipitation level than usual. The winter was significantly colder than normal, as was the month of April, thereby restricting vegetative growth. It can be characterized as a dry year, with low water resources for the plants and warm temperatures, with some high daily temperature variations in June. Due to climatic conditions, mildew attack was low in 2009 and Oidium was less evident than usual, except on more sensitive grape varieties such as Malvasia Fina, Tinta Amarela e Tinta Roriz. The crop expectations were slightly higher than 2008, but even so, lower than the last 10 years' average production.
