"Wild plum and berry flavours are concentrated and well rounded in this balanced, fresh-tasting red, which shows hints of chocolate on the finish.”

"Churchill’s first homegrown Single Quinta Vintage Port. A wine with an individual and striking character. The purple colour is vibrant and intense. The nose is high tone and reminiscent of concentrated blueberries. The taste is fine and well balanced with mouth-puckering tannins on the finish. It is a combination of finesse and power. A single Quinta Vintage Port with tremendous potential." - Johnny Graham

Quinta da Gricha is located on the South bank of the river Douro between Pinhão and Tua with a North facing aspect. The 50 hectare property comprises a vineyard are of approximately 19 hectares with an altitude of 150-250 meters above sea level. This Vintage Port was sourced exclusively from the old vineyards.

THE YEAR

The weather conditions in 1999 were quite irregular, with particular focus on very dry months like May and June, and a July hotter than usual, leading to water stress problems on the vines. However, the excellent weather during the flowering period allowed higher than normal crop expectations. August, September and October were not so hot as expected, with more rain than the average. Those first rains in August helped on the maturation process, but the heavy rain in late September and October affected the sanitary conditions of the grapes, with outbreaks of rot and making the selection of the grapes, both in vineyards and in the sorting table crucial for producing good quality ports.
