"Wild plum and berry flavours are concentrated and well rounded in this balanced, fresh-tasting red, which shows hints of chocolate on the finish.”

"A great year with ripe, full-bodied fruit. Churchill's 1994 Vintage has been losing color rapidly, but this complex Vintage Port still has enormous power and ageing potential." - Johnny Graham, 2021.

Medium matured amber colour. A heavy black cherry aroma. Full, rich flavours with good grip. Drinkable now but will keep improving in bottle for many years.

Produced with old vines from the Cima Corgo sub-region in the Douro Valley, this 1994 Vintage combines the more mature power of Água Alta with the elegant aromatically “green tea” styles of Manuela and Fojo.

THE YEAR

The winter of 1993-1994 was extremely wet throughout the region. Consequently, most vineyards experienced very low yields, with production declining to 75% in some other areas of the Douro. Despite a poor start, the growing season was satisfactory, with hot and dry weather broken only by a few short spells of rain. Contrary to previous years, there were no periods of intense heat in the Summer - the temperature never exceeded 38ºC - and this, combined with well-timed rains, resulted in an evenly ripened crop, producing musts rich in sugar, anthocyanins, and aroma.
