"Wild plum and berry flavours are concentrated and well rounded in this balanced, fresh-tasting red, which shows hints of chocolate on the finish.”

"With rain predicted for the harvest, we decided to move forward without delay and pick our best vines as quickly as possible. When the rain came on September 7, we had already filled the first four 'lagares' at Quinta da Gricha. And we came to find out later that the quality of the blends produced from these first 'lagares' was exceptional and had not suffered any dilution due to the rain that dramatically changed the character of the rest of the wines from the 2014 vintage. In the spring of 2015 we decided to make the blend as a potential Vintage and were impressed with its concentration and tannic structure. Although we were hesitant to declare 2014 because the quantity available is so small, we never doubted the quality of this Vintage. I was particularly impressed by the "leather" hardness of the 2014 wines." - Johnny Graham, 2021.

A very deep black violet colour to the rim. On the nose, intense aromas of fresh blackberry jam along with notes of resin and hints of gum cistus and green tea. Powerful and compact on the palate, combining a great tannic structure with an excellent natural acidity and layers of berry and floral flavours. Full of intensity, ends in a very long and persistent finish.

Produced with old vines (on average over 50 years old) from the Cima Corgo and Douro Superior sub-regions in the Douro Valley, of which the backbone comes from the old vines of Quinta da Gricha.

THE YEAR

The viticultural year of 2013-2014 was considered atypical mostly due to the high levels of precipitation in January, February, July, and September together with a constant weather instability during the Summer period and higher temperatures than normal in January and being August as a cooler month than average. Cima Corgo sub-region was mostly attacked by the grape moth. Due to the observed climatic conditions, the growing period of the vines was about two weeks earlier than normal, starting the harvest period in the first days of September. The rainfall that occurred in middle September forced an extension on the harvest period till early October, being the expectable crop 10 % lower than expected.
