This is Churchill’s Single Quinta Vintage Port which gives the elegance to Churchill’s Vintage blend. The style is fresh and juicy with strong aromas of black currants, resin and gum cistus. A rich ruby colour. A closed spicy nose, with a resinous background. Tight on the palate, with concentrated fruit and plenty of natural acidity. - Johnny Graham and Ricardo Pinto Nunes.
Quinta da Gricha is located on the South bank of the river Douro between Pinhão and Tua with a North facing aspect. The 50 hectare property comprises a vineyard are of approximately 19 hectares with an altitude of 150-250 meters above sea level. This Vintage Port was sourced exclusively from the old vineyards.
THE YEAR
Following a cold winter of average rainfall in 2007/2008, the spring and early summer conditions of 2008 in the Douro were warm and humid. The potential crop was about 10% below average due to unsettled weather during the flowering period. The summer conditions were dry with cold nights and average daytime temperatures never exceeding 35ºC. the dry weather continued throughout September and early October allowing for perfect vintage conditions.
