"Wild plum and berry flavours are concentrated and well rounded in this balanced, fresh-tasting red, which shows hints of chocolate on the finish.”

On the nose, blueberries and spicy peppers. On the palate, toast and coffee beans supported by a good tannic structure. A dark purple colour with the concentrated blueberry aromas, rich and full-bodied on the palate with excellent balance and juicy finish. - Johnny Graham.

The 50 hectare property comprises a vineyard are of approximately 19 hectares with an altitude of 150-250 meters above sea level. This Vintage Port was sourced exclusively from the old vineyards.

THE YEAR

2006 viticultural year started well with a rainy winter allowing the water resources to recover from the two previous dry years. The flowering conditions were good with hot and dry weather in May, followed by a hotter and unsettled June with hail storms reducing the crop in many vineyards in a significant way. In July, a heat wave impacted the potential crop as the lack of water and high temperature created stress in the vineyards. In August, some very helpful precipitation occurred on the 16th, 17th and 18th but the hot weather continued the create some 'raisining' and crop reduction. The weather during harvest was stable with some rains occurring later in September.
