"Wild plum and berry flavours are concentrated and well rounded in this balanced, fresh-tasting red, which shows hints of chocolate on the finish.”

"2016 was a great year for viticulture in the Douro. A year that combined the perfect climatic conditions and an ideal grape ripening cycle. And 2016 is just that, a concentrated Vintage with exceptional aging quality." - Johnny Graham, 2021.

Black inky colour to the rim. Plenty of intensity on the nose, with concentrated aromas of fresh blackberries, spices with graphite and herbal undertones. Fresh and vibrant with a meaty middle palate, showing layers of black cherries and chocolates encased in a high tone shell of green tea and gum cistus.

Produced with old vines (on average over 50 years old) from the Cima Corgo and Douro Superior sub-regions in the Douro Valley, of which the backbone comes from the old vines of Quinta da Gricha.

THE YEAR

2015/2016 viticultural year climatic conditions were quite atypical with a rainy and hot winter, followed by a cold and extremely rainy Spring and an extremely dry and hot Summer. Heavy rains during Springtime caused a high pressure of mildew, especially at lower altitude vineyards, having, therefore, an impact on the expected yields. Maturation was uneven in the Douro region, variating accordingly with vineyard location and grape variety, with generally lower alcohol and total acidity levels and higher phenolic compounds compared with 2015 values.
