technical sheet

A full matured ruby colour with violet tones. A complex nose, combining herbal and resinous notes with touches of mint and white pepper. On the palate, it opens to reveal flavours of pomegranate and black chocolate, supported by firm tannins and well defined acidity.

Made from the same Quintas that produce our Vintage Ports, bottled unfiltered after four years in oak, and then left to rest quietly in our cellars for two decades.

The 2004/2005 growing season in the Douro was particularly challenging - marked by very low rainfall, extreme temperatures, and significant water stress. Yields were low, but the resulting fruit showed remarkable concentration and intensity. Older, higher-altitude vineyards, such as those at Quinta da Gricha, coped especially well, producing wines of depth, balance, and character.

Cellar aged LBVs are a true rarity. Unlike traditional LBVs, typically released after only a few years, this wine has been allowed to evolve slowly for more than 20 years becoming a unique expression of Churchill’s distinctive, fresh style, now reaching its ideal moment for drinking.
